It’s a New Year again. I don’t know about you, but for me, 2016 began with a BANG. A loud bang, a clear bang, a startling and relieving bang. If November and December felt like painfully being squeezed from a pressurized tube, January feels like finally seeing all of the color laid out on the palette, ready to create a new masterpiece.
All around me people seem to have experienced a huge shift in their lives. Whether that meant transforming (and sometimes ending) significant relationships, re-locating to a new city, making radically different career choices, or simply re-calibrating the inner workings of their creative life, it has all been happening suddenly and swiftly. 2016 is not messing around.
I will study the wind, not to determine where it goes, but how it goes, leaving its mark on everyone and everything it passes through.
I recently traveled to northern Sweden, hoping to see the aurora borealis, a beautiful and breathtaking phenomena that occurs when solar flares from the sun ride strong currents of wind, bringing gaseous elements to the earth’s atmosphere and colliding with charged particles to create magnificent displays of color. I didn’t see the northern lights in the way that I expected, but I felt that brilliant collision of energy within the shadow places of my heart, illuminating a series of changes I needed to accept and allow.

Thumbing back through notes from my journal, I found this meditation I wrote on January 25th of last year. I can’t help but think it was not a coincidence. I hope these words offer a sense of comfort and resonance for you, as they did for me.
“The winds of change are blowing. Scattered raindrops refresh and renew. I am calm, centered, at peace. I feel courageous and certain of who I am and what I desire.
Of all the billions of people on this planet passing through, how is it that we’ve met? How is it that our paths have crossed for such a time as this? What are you here to teach me and to show me about myself and life? What synergy will take place? Where will the synchronicity lead?
The only constant is gratitude; complete relief from expectation and fear of loss. Appreciation for what is.
The breath, the air, the sunlight connects all living things. The closer our breath to each other, the greater the impact. Go in freedom. Grow, thrive, become more of who you are. Your growth adds to mine. We complement each other. There is no selfishness, only selflessness. There is no self in the web of life. Our exhale is the same. What helps you, helps me. What helps me, helps you.
We are the same vibration, the same core, the same essence. We are the same quality of LOVE. Fear can gain no traction in unity.”
Whatever loss you may have experienced, whatever you may have had to let go of to arrive at a new level of growth and expansion- may you stand strong in your wobbling, breathe a sigh of relief in your pain, and feel the excitement of joy in the depth of your sorrow. May the winds of change pass through you, illuminating new shades of color and a deeper understanding of who you really are and who you are becoming. <3
